Kites: Remix (M) 90 mins

Synopsis: In the harsh terrain of the Mexican desert, a mortally wounded man is left to die in the heat of the desert sun. This is Jay.  Once a street smart, carefree young guy, he is now a wanted man. As death looms, the only thing that keeps him alive is the quest to find the love of his life, Natasha. A woman betrothed to another man.  Jay and Natasha will fall in love despite language and cultural barriers, and embark on an action-packed adventure of love, dance and danger across Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Mexico- an adventure that could kill them both, or bring them together forever.

Synopsis:  City Island is a hilarious and touching tale about a family whose comfortable co‐existence is upended by surprising revelations of past secrets and present day lies.

Vince Rizzo (Garcia), a family man who makes his living as a corrections officer, longs to become an actor. Ashamed to admit his aspirations to his family, Vince would rather let his fiery wife Joyce (Margulies) believe his weekly poker games are a cover for an extramarital affair than admit he's secretly taking acting classes in Manhattan. When Vince is asked to reveal his biggest secret in class, he inadvertently sets off a chaotic chain of events that turns his mundane suburban life upside down.

Fifteen-year-old Mia (Katie Jarvis) is in a constant state of war with her family and the world around her, without any creative outlet for her considerable energies save a secret love of hip-hop dance. When she meets her party-girl mother's charming new boyfriend Connor (Michael Fassbender), she is amazed to find he returns her attention, and believes he might help her start to make sense of her life. A clear-eyed, potent portrait of teenage sexuality and vulnerability, Fish Tank  confirms writer/director Arnold's status as one of the leading figures of new British cinema.

 

 

 
Animal Kingdom (MA15+) 112 mins

Synopsis: A powerful crime drama, Animal Kingdom tells the story of a tense battle between a dangerous criminal family and the police, and the young man who finds himself caught in the crossfire.

Following the death of his mother, Joshua 'J' Cody finds himself living with his hitherto estranged family- a family populated by armed robbers and drug dealers. J quickly comes to believe that he is a player in this world. But, as he soon discovers, this world is far larger and more menacing than he could ever imagine.

When tensions between family and police reach a bloody peak and J finds himself at the centre of a cold-blooded revenge plot, it is the job of senior cop, Nathan Leckie (Guy Pearce), to lure J into the police fold and then shepherd him through a complex minefield of witness protection, corrupt cops, slippery lawyers and a paranoid and vengeful underworld.
